It is time to change brake discs ony my van. The current ones were some noname italian made cheap ones. Lasted ~200k kms and 15yrs. With TRW pads it still grips fine, but it is near the wear limit.

I can get a wide variety of discs from a local parts store but Febi is one of the cheapests. Around 2/3 to 3/4 the price of big brands like Brembo, TRW, Ate, Zimmermann etc.
Listed to be coated like ATE.

Is it worth a try or keep away?

For pads I probably will stick with TRW. They...

I have installed a short shift kit on my T3 with a JX motor and 3H 5 speed transmission. I know that the orientation of the gear selector housing is different on the diesels. As it currently is, the selector fork rests above the guides bolted on the bottom of the housing. Is this correct or should the forks be lower as they are in the original configuration? Here is a photo of what I am referring to.

Hi all

I'm in the process of putting in a new exhaust. The previous owner welded several parts together, so I will have to replace all of it.
The nuts are of course very rusty, so block wrench somewhere between 12mm and 13mm kind of fits, but mostly I destroy them in the process, which leads to the prospect of replacing the stud bolts. Here is a link to them.
I also found similar on eBay.

Which ones are correct ?
Is it even possible to swap them?

I will be getting touch-up paint for som rust spots and am looking to verify that I have the correct colour code.
My van was manufactured 1986-08-01 to 1987-07-31 according to one source or 1987-01-31 to 1987-02-28 according to another.
The vehicle was sold 1987-03-20.

I think the correct colour is LH3D / H3 MARSALA RED according to this list

I would appreciate verification or if this seems incorrect.

My van has been sitting all winter, and the other day I did a little check-up on it.
The clutch pedal is no longer clutching :-(
The hydraulic / break fluid was very low, filled it up. No change.
The pedal feels like nothing exept the return-spring is attached.
Could this be merely air getting into the system, or could it be something else?

We are on the way home from our 3 week ostsee-nordsee road trip everything went smooth for 2.5 weeks, but I had a strange hiccup today.

I was driving on the highway, around 100-110kmph (~3000rpm) when the charge idiot light came on for a sec or two, the tacho dropped to zero then jumped up to full sweep. And then everything back to normal. Did it two times, then I slowed down to 90 and came off the highway.

The spring for the carburettor broke. With some modification, I replaced it with a different spring. Is the original (or replacement) available somewhere?

I have a green blinking light and have no idea why it's blinking or what it's indicating.
The manual says it should be the brake warning lamp, but this is not on the bottom of the dash, it's on the top.
The brakes also work perfectly. But should I look for and where?

Here I attach an audio clip from my van. Motor is WBX 1.9 78 PS. Recording was made inside van, with motor cover removed. As you can hear, there is a horrible rattling sound coming from the motor. Any clues is much appreciated.

Hi again!

A friend of mine has his steering rack boots disitegrated. The remains of the boot are stuck in the teeth of the rack so it is needed to clean it thoroughly and re-grease then with the new boot.
E.T.K.A. shows a special VW seering rack grease with AOF 063 000 04 partnr for that.
Is there any other brand alternatives of that OE grease? Grease standards that work? Or just try to order it at VW?
TK-carparts has LiquiMoly MoS2 listed as steering component grease. I doubt that is good for...

It seems like I have some coolant problems.
On longer high RPM trips (like 1-1.5 hr highway above 4000rpm) pressure builds up in the coolant system.
I have lost a few hoses in the past years and now the rear heater matrix.

A bad coolant cap (relatively new Blau one) can cause this, or it is sign of a starting head gasket problem?
I had no such problems before the cap as I remember.

The engine is an 1Z mtdi with all JX stuff other than the diesel pump.

Any suggestion?

Has anyone tried to fit a VNT15 or other VNT turbo on a 1.6TD in the T3?

I'm investigating the possibility to have a more consistent boost profile over the entire RPM range. I currently use the stock K14 with a liquid intercooler and the Oetinger mods.

Not sure about VNT control either, electronic or manual?

Along my sufferings with the roof, my two month old (ran ~2000kms) Lemförder branded upper control arm bushings started to squeak.
Is there any proven rubber friendly spray lubricant that would work there?
I have read to use Fluidfilm on US forums, but in my experience fluidfilm swells up rubber, so I think it would damage the bushing.
Würth HHS 2000 said to be rubber friendly. Is it true?
Or use some PTFE or MoS2 spray?

I ran into a small problem.

I have a '86 Transporter (ex Caravelle, now Multivan interior) which I did put a Westy poptop on. (Club Joker roof with a Mosaik Joker install kit I bought second hand)
Here in Hungary modificatons on the vehicles have to be engineered and permitted. The engineer said that beside his technical description, the local authority would need a proof from the importer that there was an OE version of that car with the roof.
Unfortunately he said neither the VW...

has anybody heard of above heater ?
They were long sold by Mikuni / Japan , later MV Heating / Southampton , took over - apparently with several modifications.

I am a bit desperate to find an OPOERATION MANUAL , since the unit is operated via two digital programming units/displays.

The heater was also used in the maritime environment and installed in boats.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello everyone. I have a problem with the ABS system. I have a Doka with ABS brake but it doesn't work. The ABS warning light is on all the time. I measured the resistance on the sensors and it shows approx. 1003 ohm. Both brake switches are correct. There is currently no front differential on the car but the joints are in place. Can anyone help me with any diagnosis? Thank you .

I would like to install an aftermarket heated seat with the OE switch and relays. As I know the factory setup use a thermistor in the lower pad to measure the heat. Is there any info out there which type of thermistor is used?

After a DISASTER of an AAZ upgrade (the motor blew after 1000km!), I want to look into an electric conversion.
TUV says it will be a nightmare (LOTS of paperwork!), but if someone has already done this, the door is already open.
I have a 1990 Syncro, and ideally, it would be a bolt-on to the transmission.

In the last weekend we visited the Bayerische Wald near the Czech border to do a bit of trekking in the autumn forest.
We were stopped by a covered police car just after Ludwigsthal and the car was thoroughly checked. They were checking manufacturing dates on interior parts beside the VIN and the engine nr. After 45mins they admitted that everything is OK with my car. They gave back our papers and left without saying goodbye.

I am trying to find TÜV papers for Borbet A in VA 7,5x16 and HA 9x16 or Penta in VA 8x16 and HA 9x16.
The reason for this is that I am putting on Lorinser LO in VA 8x16 ET22 and HA 9x16 ET10 and I have to convince the Norwegian TÜV that similar dimensions have been used before 8-)

Along with my shopping for a T3 Syncro camper I've been thinking about possibly just having one done by Reimo. It seems like you can still have them outfit a T3 with a brand new interior and hopefully a high roof. Does anyone know if this is still possible or even better has anyone here done that? I bought a Whitestar with 1.6TD that was lazy, was eating 1L oil to 100km. I started to read the german section and saw that a lot of guy went with TDi engines. I wanted to stay with TD but with a little more power and Nm but to be in the green with the temps of oit and water and still cruising abobe 100km/h so i bought a 1.7KY block and cylinderhead. Started to disassemble the block, wash it and check everything inside. The crank was outworn, the bearings from conrods where at 0.75...

Have a hire van there, they have a niggly problem with interior electrics which is probably straightforward but I've not been able to resolve over the phone. Finally joined a German Forum. As ive been on the enligh club80-90 for the past few months. Met Titus in Leipzig there too.

Im based in Munich for the last 5 years now, Ive also spent 1-2 years in Stuttgart.

Any way i was searching web for interesting materials about Vw 3 especially books couse they are accessible with difficulties in normal printed form.

With much effort i get some pdf books with file names called:

and others.
